Citizenship by Descent
Citizenship by descent may be acquired by a person born outside Australia who is the natural child of an Australian citizen parent.
To apply for Australian citizenship by descent at the Australian Embassy, an application must be lodged with the following documents:
- Form 118, Application for Registration of Australian Citizenship by Descent
- The original birth certificate of the applicant issued by the hospital in English showing details of both parents
- one of the following original documents of an Australian parent:
- Australian birth certificate (for parents born before 20/8/86), or
- Certificate of Australian citizenship (grant or declaratory), or
- unrestricted Australian passport issued after 22/11/84
- 1 endorsed passport sized photo of the applicant
- Application charge
Please note:
- Applications may be lodged by mail or in person at the Australian Embassy.
- All documents not in English must be fully translated and certified by an authorised person on each page.
