Korea and Australia Exchange Young Leaders
The Korea Foundation and the Australia-Korea Foundation have initiated the Australia-Korea Young Leaders Exchange Program. The program aims to develop links between potential and current leaders from Australia and Korea and an awareness of issues the two countries have in common.
The theme of this years’ exchange is the environment, and on Saturday ten young Australian environmental leaders will arrive in Seoul for a one week visit. The group includes scientists, engineers and planners currently working on greenhouse gas reduction, renewable energy, waste management, sustainable development, water resource management, and protected-area conservation.
During their time in Korea the group will participate in a number of briefings and meetings with Korean counterparts. They will also undertake a number of site visits including to observe the restored Cheonggyechon; the POSCO steel works at Pohang and the environmentally-friendly FINEX smelter; the Sihwaho Tidal Power Plant; and a resource circulation theme pavilion and resource recovery facilities.
The theme of next year’s exchange is politics and society, and in 2008 a delegation of young Korean political leaders will travel to Australia.
