Gelam Nguzu Kazi – Dugong My Son, a Torres Strait Islander visual art exhibition, was opened at the Goyang Arts Complex by Ambassador Peter Rowe on 19 February. This exhibition, which ran through to 7 March, provided one of the first opportunities for Koreans to experience and learn about the Torres Strait Islands; another of Australia’s distinct indigenous cultures. The exhibition presented 33 limited edition linocuts employing carving traditions of the Torres Strait Islanders, whose legend and ancient stories were the theme of the exhibited works. Victor Motlop, a Torres Strait artist whose works featured in the exhibition, was also present adding significant extra interest among the Koreans.
